Pena House

This old house with a traditional Algarve design has been rehabilitated and expanded taking advantage of the fantastic views of Rocha da Pena and the valley towards Salir.

The house was in poor condition, but it had very particular traditional elements that we always tried to maintain, respecting its uniqueness and authenticity.

The result is a 3 bedroom villa with excellent areas, with swimming pool, garage and terraces with stunning views.

The pre-existing views and materials served, without a doubt, of great inspiration for the development of the project.

As for the views:

The house is facing south with a large terrace where an infinity pool was installed at the highest elevation. The east and west wings of the house are posicioned towards the open views (Rocha da Pena and the valley).

As for the materials:

The stone covers the exterior walls visible from the outside. This material intrinsically linked to the stone masonry used in traditional construction conveys the desired monumentality and solidity.

Inside the terrace / patio, the interior spaces blend with the exterior, with water and light. In this space, the whitewashed walls, the frames, in stone, and the roof tiles stand out in the presence of glass.

Wood and reeds appear in the project with more ephemeral elements associated with shading and furniture, in contrast to the structural function they had in the old house.
